About Us
Mukluks on the Ground (MOTG) is a nonprofit organization founded with the mission of preserving, promoting, and celebrating Alaska Native cultural traditions. Our name, “Mukluks,” refers to the traditional Alaska Native boots worn to withstand the harsh Arctic climate, symbolizing our dedication to standing firmly on the ground of cultural heritage and tradition. What sets us apart is our mobility — we are not limited by a fixed location, allowing us to bring our programs and support directly to the communities.
At the heart of Mukluks on the Ground is a diverse team of co-founders and members, each driven by a shared passion for cultural preservation, youth engagement, and community healing. The founding members saw critical needs in their communities and responded by creating MOTG as a platform for cultural education, intergenerational learning, and personal empowerment.
Our mission is to preserve and promote cultural connections.
By walking in the mukluks of our Ancestors, we aim to share educational and sustainable resources that pave the way for future generations to learn, embrace and teach traditional values of the past, present, and future.
